Who gets varicose veins and why?
There can be several contributing factors - genetics/heredity, Pregnancy, obesity, standing for very long periods of time, to mention a few.
How many treatments will I need?
This will be determined after your free consultation with Dr. Hrdlicka.
Is the treatment painful?
The analogy that we use is like being snapped with a rubber band. The discomfort will only last for as long as the laser is in use; this subsides when the laser stops.
How long does it take?
We work in increments of 30 minute sessions for spider vein treatment. ELAS and Phlebectomy can take 1 ½ to 2 hours.
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive, radiation-free diagnostic test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of body tissues.
Duplex ultrasound allows Dr. Hrdlicka to measure the velocity of blood flow and to see the structure of the blood vessels through which the blood is flowing.
He uses duplex ultrasound to diagnose and examine diseases that affect the blood vessels, as well as to plan for and evaluate surgical and interventional therapies.
What is Tumescent Anesthesia?
Tumescent Anesthesia has been used most commonly by dermatologists and plastic surgeons for years. Recently, it has been applied to other procedures, particularly vein surgery. When Dr. Hrdlicka administers the tumescent anesthesia, the tissues are infiltrated with the dilute liquid anesthetic. The large volume of fluid causes the vessels to be compressed, which results in very minimal bleeding. This anesthesia has a prolonged effect and also helps with any postoperative discomfort.
Does my insurance cover any of these procedures?
Insurance companies do cover some of the procedures that we do, depending on the severity of your vein disease. We will be glad to do letters of medical necessity and pre-authorize any treatments, when indicated.
How do I make an appointment?
Use either numbers provided on this Web site. We do not double book patients; your time is your own. We would like a courtesy call if you cannot keep your appointment as it is usually a 2-3 week wait time to schedule appointments.
What are some of the symptoms I will have with Varicose Veins?
Varicose Veins can cause pain and heaviness in legs, edema, burning and stinging, aching and throbbing. In extreme cases, leg ulcers may develop; phlebitis can occur.
What can I expect after the spider vein treatment?
After the treatment of Spider Veins, you will experience a "cat scratch" appearance; this will disappear in a few hours. The veins will then turn from blue and purple to a light red. The redness of the treated vessels will gradually fade. This can take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks depending on the severity of the veins. Dr. Hrdlicka will ask that you wear support hose for 2 weeks after each treatment to keep the veins compressed.
