Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy

This is similar to traditional sclerotherapy used for spider veins, but this new procedure is effective for varicose veins. The major difference is that a foam-like medication, rather than a liquid, is injected into the veins. The foam makes better contact with the inside of the vein wall and stays in the vein longer, thereby optimizing results. Foam sclerotherapy is performed while monitoring the vein on an ultrasound screen. This allows for accurate placement of the medication into the diseased deeper veins that often leak and feed into the bulging surface veins.
